Arctic Monkeys are an English indie rock band. Formed in 2002 in High Green, a suburb of Sheffield. They are heralded as one of the first acts to come to the public attention via the Internet (fan-based sites rather than from the band), with commentators suggesting they represented the possibility of a change in the way in which new bands are promoted and marketed. This makes the band more independent and original from manufactured bands, as they established and promoted themselves by producing 17 songs which were demoed and the collection, now known as 'Beneath the Boardwalk', were burned on to CDs to give away at gigs, which were promptly file-shared amongst fans. This allowed fans and their audience to identify and relate to the bands music. The band's success with little marketing or advertising led some to suggest that it could signal a change in how new bands achieve recognition.

"Fluorescent Adolescent" is a song by the Arctic Monkeys and the second single from their second album Favourite Worst Nightmare. It was released on 4 July 2007 in Japan and 9 July 2007 in the United Kingdom

Filmed in late April 2007, the music video was directed by Richard Ayoade and features Stephen Graham (who previously appeared on the Scummy Man DVD and the "When the Sun Goes Down” video) as a clown. The music video premiered in the UK at 23:40, 5 June 2007 on Channel 4, and was available online the next day.
It appears to be a song bout getting older and finding out that life isn't as fun anymore. The protagonist is "landing in a very common crisis" which indicates that her sex life is not what it used to be.

On downloads alone, "Fluorescent Adolescent" charted in the UK Singles Chart at #55 for the week commencing 25 June 2007. The song charted at number five upon release of the single on CD for the week commencing 16 July 2007. Since 27 June 2007, "Fluorescent Adolescent" has received significant BBC Radio 1 airplay as the first song on "The A List" Playlist.
